You may have noticed it in recent years: more and more outdoor upholstery fabric collections<\/strong> have appeared on the market. This shift is largely driven by the growing use of polypropylene<\/strong>, a fibre whose presence keeps expanding across the industry.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

As a result, we\u2019re seeing not only outdoor furniture, but also an increasing amount of textile material – fabrics, rugs and other coverings- made from 100% of this plastic-based fibre<\/strong>. Enough to make you want to take a closer look.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Polypropylene: definition<\/h2>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Polypropylene is a thermoplastic<\/strong> from the polyolefin family. This material isn\u2019t new: it was developed in 1957 by the Montecatini company<\/a> and was then widely adopted from the 1960s onward<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PP is food-safe and offers strong chemical resistance, good thermal stability and excellent flexural performance\u2014one of the qualities most valued in everyday applications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In practice, polypropylene comes in two main forms: homopolymer and copolymer. Copolymer grades are preferred for uses exposed to cold conditions, while the homopolymer form\u2014harder by nature\u2014withstands higher temperatures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Polypropylene is identified by the abbreviated designation: PP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Uses<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

It has long been used in countless applications: bags, films, flexible pipes, household containers, toys, the automotive industry\u2026 And increasingly, textiles. The mastery of this material has notably accelerated the rise of outdoor upholstery fabrics<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n

Properties<\/h3>\n

Polypropylene has a slightly textured, rugged feel. It\u2019s durable and benefits from being flexible. It has been widely used in the chemical industry and polymer engineering.<\/p>\n
